2022 vs New Normal™ for elderly men and women aged 80+ in District Of Columbia
- 1,796 of 1,796 total deaths were from All Causes
- 100.00% of all deaths were from All Causes
- This is down 7% compared to Old Normal rates.
- 1,931 of 1,931 total deaths would have been expected under Old Normal conditions.
- 135 fewer than expected deaths from All Causes in 2022.
- 20 fewer than expected deaths from All Causes (2015-2022)
- To show this year’s deaths from All Causes are down 7% compared to Old Normal rates, we need to calculate the rates for both 2022 and for the Old Normal.
Remember, death rates are calculated to answer these questions:
- “How many elderly men and women aged 80+ were there?” and
- “How many of them died from All Causes?”
The following 2 charts provide this information:
Deaths – All Causes – Both Sexes – Aged 80+ | District Of Columbia, United-states
Population – Both Sexes – Aged 80+ – [2000-2022] | District Of Columbia, United-states
From the charts, we can see that in 2022, 1,796 of 10,298 elderly men and women aged 80+ living in District Of Columbia died from All Causes.
1,796 ÷ 10,298 = 0.17440 (2022 CDR)
Deaths/100,000 Both Sexes 80+ from All Causes
The table shows there were a total of 28,120 deaths from All Causes among 149,929 elderly men and women aged 80+ living in District Of Columbia in the 15 years immediately prior to the New Normal™.
28,120 ÷ 149,929 = 0.18756 (Old Normal CDR)
We can use the Old Normal rate to predict this year’s deaths:
2022 pop X Old Normal CDR = expected deaths
10,298 X 0.18756 = 1,931 expected deaths
The difference between actual and expected deaths shows lives saved or lost:
1,796 – 1,931 = -135
Dividing the actual deaths by the expected deaths gives us the comparative rates:
1,796 ÷ 1,931 = 0.9298
This reveals 135 lives saved and is 92.98% of what we expected (a decrease of 7%) in deaths from All Causes among elderly men and women aged 80+ living in District Of Columbia in 2022, as compared to the Old Normal.
This is the same method used by Public Health to calculate the 5-yr CDR (Cumulative Death Rate):
12,705 ÷ 67,127 = 0.18927 (5-yr CDR)
10,298(2022 pop) X 0.18927 = 1,949 expected deaths
The difference between actual and expected deaths:
1,796 – 1,949 = -153 or 153 lives saved
Divide actual deaths by expected deaths:
1,796 ÷ 1,949 = 0.9214 or a decrease of 8%
for deaths from All Causes among elderly men and women aged 80+ living in District Of Columbia in 2022, as compared to the previous 5 years.
Compare our Old Normal to the 5yr CDR. Does it tell the same story your TV does?
Finally, the same method can also be used to compare our Old Normal rate to the New Normal™ rate:
New Normal™ population X Old Normal rate = expected deaths
77,425 X 0.18756 = 14,521 expected deaths
The difference between actual and expected deaths:
14501 – 14,521 = -20 or 20 lives saved
Dividing the actual deaths by the expected deaths:
14,501 ÷ 14,521 = 0.9985 or a decrease of 0%
in deaths from All Causes among elderly men and women aged 80+ living in District Of Columbia in the New Normal™, as compared to the Old Normal.
The world has been led to believe that a deadly pandemic swept the globe beginning in 2020, causing an increase in death rates, especially among the elderly
The data show that death rates began to increase in 2015, immediately upon implementation of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, that young adults have experienced ever-increasing death rates since, and that death rates among the elderly have remained relatively stable.
